Kwasuka Sukela- Building Bridges- Activation
Tuesday evening saw a heartfelt World Aids Day commemoration of artistic expressions. Sisipho Catering and Restaurant provided the ideal setting - elegant, creative with delectable cuisine and impeccable hospitality.
This Activation was a teaser campaign to give a sneak preview into and get people talking about the upcoming Kwasuka Sukela: Building Bridges event taking place on Wednesday 16 December at KZN Botanical Gardens PMB. A family fun day with music, poetry, dance, DJs, live performances and an exhibition. On the evening of 1st of December we hosted media, potential and current sponsors, the arts fraternity and Maritzburg’s movers and shakers. Our MCs Nosipho Mthembu and Siyanda “Stylez” Khoza kept the guests thoroughly entertained throughout the evening. Our main feature was the exhibition showcasing photography by Dante Kemp and Mongezi “Junkie” Ntaka, painting by Dawn Du Preez and poetry by Pretty Olifant. DJs, Siya “Selekta” Sithole, Thamsanqa “Thami” Sithole, Tmon & Pumba and SoCo kept the mood upbeat and groovy. Guests were treated to champagne, live music performances, poetry, dance, an abundance of music by djs on the decks, mouth-watering platters and fruity punch. Light Dancing by Dawn Du Preez, music performances by Lew Manning, BB Stylez, Nomalanga Hlubi and a poetry performance by Pretty Olifant. Sisipho Catering and Restaurant’s Head Chef Mlando welcomed guests warmly with addresses by our partners; Dante Kemp (Anatoli Photography), Siphuxolo Ngqasa (KZN Botanical Gardens PMB), Duduzile Radebe (PACSA) and Pretty Olifant (hot offee communications). December 16th, courtesy of PACSA, as part of our exhibition we showcase works by KZN’s very own, internationally renowned photographer Cedric Nunn titled; “This Is How We Live In KZN”, currently exhibiting in Frankfurt Germany. In a picnic, family friendly environment music, poetry, dance, Djs, live performances will be the order of the day. |
20% of ticket sales for the event on the 16th will be donated to a poverty stricken 23 member family living in BB Extension in Imbali, infected and affected by HIV/Aids. It seemed fitting then to host our activation on World Aids Day where we lit candles, observed a moment of silence and prayed for children, our brothers and sisters who passed away because of this epidemic.
The theme of the second leg of Kwasuka Sukela is Building Bridges with the central message of Unity-Though-Understanding. A reconciliation commemoration that encourages social cohesion, harmonious relations and nation building. Our initiative is about collaborations and telling stories through varied art forms in nature’s beautiful surrounds. Kwasuka Sukela means “Once Upon A Time”. Our initiative aims to rewrite Pietermaritzburg’s chapters by showcasing and celebrating the vastness of our local talent. All whilst creating business opportunities for local companies and lending a hand to the development of our community. Kwasuka Sukela: Building Bridges is a hot toffee communications initiative in collaboration with KZN Botanical Gardens PMB, Anatoli Photography, PACSA, Oceanic Soundz, Lusizo IT, Mncwabe Printers and Xolisisizwe Trading and Projects. |
